What is Woolly Wednesday?

Woolly Wednesday is an awareness day that promotes the support available from NewstrAid for those struggling to cover the cost of heating over the winter.

When does it take place?

In 2023 Woolly Wednesday will take place on Wednesday 1st November. This coincides with the distribution of NewstrAid’s Winter Comfort grant which provides around 400 of the charity’s beneficiaries with a small financial boost to help them stay warm during the colder months.

How will it help?

The cost of living crisis is impacting real people from our industry everyday. Requests received by NewstrAid for financial help this year are 5 times higher than in 2022 and over the last 12 months, NewstrAid has helped nearly 200 households with a one off grant to help bridge the gap between income and expenditure. Woolly Wednesday aims to help spread the word so that as many people as possible from the newstrade who are struggling to make ends meet, know about the support available. It will also help to raise funds for the charity through a winter raffle.

How can I get involved?

Being part of Woolly Wednesday is really easy!

1. Post on Social Media

Simply pledge your support via social media on 1st November. We have included some suggested text you can use below or you can post your own message of support. Make sure you use the hashtag #WoollyWednesday, and tag* NewstrAid.

We have also created an image you can download and post on the day.

2. Enter NewstrAid’s Christmas Raffle:

You can also contribute to the financial help NewstrAid provides by buying a ticket for the NewstrAid Christmas Raffle. All entries received on Woolly Weds (1st Nov) will also be entered into a special extra draw to win a bottle of Champagne!.

The raffle draw will take place at NewstrAid’s Carol Concert Reception on Monday 4th December 2023.
