In cases where we cannot help directly, every effort will be made to refer people on to relevant organisations. Our Advice and Signposting service includes:

Debt Advice Foundation

We work in partnership with the Debt Advice Foundation which is a registered national debt advice and education charity offering free, confidential support and advice to anyone worried about debt. Because they are a charity, you can be sure that the advice they give is impartial and based solely on what is best for you.

If you have a debt problem, the Debt Advice Foundation can help you understand which options are available to you and will recommend the debt solution that is right for your situation.

THEIR AIM IS TO HELP YOU:

  • Reduce monthly repayments to a realistic and affordable level
  • Stop creditors taking enforcement action against you
  • Protect important assets such as your home
  • Help prevent debt by drawing up an individual weekly budget

If you are struggling to keep up with credit card or loan repayments, have arrears or are facing legal action as a result of being unable to pay your creditors, their debt helpline advisors are standing by waiting to help.

They advise on the full range of debt solutions including Bankruptcy, Debt Relief Orders, Free Debt Management plans, IVAs, Trust Deeds, LILAs, Debt Arrangement Scheme, Administration Orders and Debt Consolidation. Although NewstrAid cannot help you clear credit card debts or loans, we will consider funding debt solutions recommended by professional advisors.

State Benefits Advice

Our welfare team is trained to advise on all benefits including working age schemes as well as benefits for those facing retirement. We can also advise those who work part time and have children or elderly relatives to care for.

Support for the Disabled & their Carers

We offer guidance on state benefit entitlement for the disabled and their carers as well as funding for equipment and adaptations. Regular grants to help meet living costs may be awarded to those whose capacity to work is affected by disability/ill health.

Our team has a wide knowledge of other agencies and charities who may be able to offer help and support in a range of different circumstances. Where appropriate we can suggest other organisations you may want to contact.

Sheltered Housing

Old Ben Homes, a separate charity from NewstrAid, provides sheltered housing for people from across the UK news trade and has done since the 1950s.

With two estates, one in Lilleshall, Shropshire, and one in Seaford, West Sussex, Old Ben Homes provides a wonderful community into which people from the UK news trade can move.
